This past weekend was very productive for the kennel. We ran a few young dogs and faired very well. Our Chessie "Tuff" got his first 2 started passes. Brad ran Lillie on Sunday and she got her 1st Started pass. It was great to see my W. Mississippi HRC friends and get back into running dogs after taking some much needed time off from Hunt Tests. Looks like it will be a very busy Hunt Test schedule this Spring as we have quite a few young dogs that need to work on titles.

As many already know I have been out of the country for 12 days in Brazil. I have been involved with an Agricultural Leadership group at LSU for the past 2 years and our final trip was to the country of Brazil. The trip was Ag related and very educational. Our group arrived back safe and sound from Sao' Paulo Brazil yesterday morning. I am so blessed that Brad, Madison and my parents held the farm and kennel together while I was away. I will be posting some pictures of my experience in Brazil to the photo page shortly.
Now back to business, we have begun sending our Rose & Gus pups to their new homes this week. We have 1 yellow male available. What a exciting weekend, I took my youngest daughter , McKenzie 8 yrs old, deer hunting for her first "Youth Hunt". After a very disappointing Sunday morning, missing a shot on a doe and then the gun jamming on a nice buck we were quite frustrated. Sunday evening she and I were back at it wondering if we had used up all of our chances. We said a prayer asking the Lord to let us just see some deer. We set quietly in our stand and were very patient, (which isn't easy for us)! As we sat and sat McKenzie whispered "Mom I hear something behind the stand, it might be a deer". I told her deer are usually quiet it is probably a raccoon. We got our prayers answered when a buck walked right in front of our stand. Both of us were in shock and disbelief. McKenzie said mom we can't miss this one, we have to take him. After fumbling with the gun and we said one more prayer asking the Lord to let the shot be successful. It was and McKenzie got her first deer! I good looking 7 pt buck!!! When we were out of the stand she turned to me and said Mom we did it together. This has been a day that will be etched in our memories for a lifetime!
I also was able to work with "Lillie" our new blood trail dog. I let her out of the truck which was parked quite a ways from the deer in the woods and she found the deer with no difficulties.

Dec. 16, 2008
Last Thursday we had 7-8 inches of snow on our farm. That is something that I have never seen before in South Louisiana. My kids had a snow day off of school. Well after the excitement wore off, I went to take a look on the farm and see how the ducks were doing. The ducks were fine but our buildings were not! The hen barn buckled and collapsed due to the weight of the snow. Two of my flight pens were damaged but are fixable. Oh well, they were built to withstand hurricanes not snow storms!
As Christmas Day is quickly approaching, I have been working to let the stresses of each day not overwhelm but to enjoy the Christmas spirit! My children remind me each day that I have so much be thankful for and to not let the worries get the best of me!
Please keep my kids and I in your prayers as we have had a difficult time here at Y-Farms over the past year.
Dec. 3, 2008
Happy Holidays!!!! I hope that everyone is enjoying the cooler temperatures and is sharing the Christmas Spirit.

Some sad news to share.
It has been a stressful several weeks but we are making it through it. We were hit hard by Hurricane Gustav. The storm caused lots of damage on our farm. We lost 10 to 12 huge trees, several outdoor kennels & sections of fencing were destroyed. We also lost one of our new flight pens killing approx. 2000 young ducks. Two days after the storm plowed through here we suffered a flash flood on the farm causing more damage.
During the storm Brie began having pups and unfortunately she lost all of her puppies due to anxiety and stress.
We have been very upset, unfortunately mother nature hasn't been very kind to us.
August 25, 2008
It's a soggy Monday and kinda yucky! But I am really excited about the 2 litters that we have confirmed! HRCH Brie & HRCH Max an all Chocolate litter due right around Labor Day and Sadie & HRCH Hopper an all Black litter which will be due towards the end of September. We are taking deposits on both litters.
August 7, 2008
Hello! Lots of news to cover....... To dispel any rumors, we are NOT closing our duck farm. We had some testing done through the state of Louisiana a few weeks ago and were asked not to sell and ducks until the testing was completed. The testing has been finished and all is well! But due to the outrageous fuel & feed costs we have decided to scale back our farm and sell ducks on a first come first serve basis. As dog trainers we know how much Mallards are needed for training. We will continue to hatch and raise ducks but in SMALLER quantities than in previous years. If you have any questions about the ducks feel free to email us as we have been swamped with calls regarding the ducks.
July 12, 2008
Hope that you are enjoying your weekend, it's dry & HOT here in Louisiana!!! We are getting our farm work done early in the mornings and training dogs late in the evenings because of the heat. We have been doing lots of water work at the pond and in our pool to keep the dogs as cool as possible. They love it!!!
We have also been taking several of the dogs to the camp on the weekends to have some FUN time. Check out the pictures on our "Photo Gallery" page. They enjoy riding in the boat and retrieving bumpers in the bayou and hanging out with our family.

I received this email from a friend today and I felt that it needed to be shared.
This is one of the kindest things I have ever experienced. I have no way to know who sent it but it was beautiful soul working in the dead letter office of the US Postal Office.
Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her.. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:
Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her, You will know that she is my dog.. I really miss her.Love, Meredith..
We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.
Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith,' in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.「 Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture of Abbey really helped because I recognized her right away.Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me.
What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.
I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.
By the way, I'm easy to find. I am wherever there is love.
Love, God

What a busy week we have had here at Y-Farms. After returning from Texas, I took a flying trip to Memphis to pick up a dog on Saturday. Saturday evening HRCH Brie began having her pups just as soon as my truck pulled in the driveway. She has 4 big beautiful chocolate puppies, all are doing GREAT! We have 1 female and 3 males.

Remi has 9 pups in total, 7 black pups and 2 chocolate pups. These pups will be ready to go home at the end of October. Check out our "current litters" page for more info on this litter. We have also confirmed that SHR Sunny is expecting, she is due to have her pups on or about Oct. 6th, this will be an all Yellow litter.

Hi there! Happy Labor Day, belated! Things have been peaceful here at Y-Farms. We are excited to announce 2 litters on the way in addition to the HRCH Brie and GRHRCH Gumbo litter. We have successfully bred SHR Pinny and HR Gabe QAA, this will produce an all Black litter at the end of September. We also have another litter on the way that we will be whelping and raising at our kennel for one of our clients, HR Cisco (Lady and HRCH Scooner SH) and Remi (SHR Tuppy and GRHRCH Gumbo MH). This litter should produce chocolate and black puppies, to be born on or about the 10th of September. Pictures and info on this litter will soon be on our upcoming litters page.
August 21, 2007
I have managed to get all my kiddos back in school for the fall! NOW! I can concentrate on work without the hourly interruptions from the kids. Just dreading homework! haha!
We are excited to be expecting an ALL chocolate litter from GRHRCH Gumbo and HRCH Brie in approx. 5 weeks. It is still too soon to find out if SHR Pinny and HR Gabe QAA are expecting. Also, we had a repeat breeding with HRCH Elvis and SHR Sunny a couple of weeks ago, we are keeping our fingers crossed on that breeding as well. We currently have 1 black female puppy available from HRCH Hopper and HRCH Marley, this pup is 8 weeks old and good looking!
The ducks are quacking and doing great! We recently finished building another flight pen on our farm to house several thousand more ducks. The hatchery slowed down production several weeks back but out of the blue we have seen our hens pick up in production even with the 100 degree plus heat index here in Louisiana. Not sure how to explain that????
Try to stay safe and keep cool with these warm temperatures.
August 6, 2007
August is here and I am not sure where the lazy summer days have gone??? This summer has been quite busy and has felt like a roller coaster ride! We have had a couple of great breeding's take place and some that should have happened that just didn't materialize.
Marley and Hopper's pups are 6 weeks old today and are doing super! We had puppy immunizations and a Vet check up this morning, everyone looked great! They will begin going home this week, yeah! Please pass it on for me that we have 1 female pup still available.
We will find out shortly if HRCH Brie and GRHRCH Gumbo are having pups. We also recently bred SHR Pinny to HR Gabe QAA, (Gabe's info is on our "stud dog" page) this litter will produce all black pups. To add more excitement to the mix we just did a repeat breeding with SHR Sunny and HRCH Elvis, if successful this will produce an all Yellow litter.
July 17, 2007
I hope this quick note finds you doing just fine! We have been busy this week with several breedings and I am cautiously optimistic?!?!?!
Marley's babies are getting BIG! They are now up walking around the whelping box and learning how to bark. We will begin solid food at the end of this week.
We are getting dates together for our upcoming Fall Hunt Test Season which will be posted within the next week here on the web site. We are also adding a new page to the web site the "Testimonials" page. This page will have copies of notes and emails from our clients. Feel free to let us know how your pup is doing and we will post it.
July 5, 2007
Hello! I hope that everyone had a Fun and Safe 4th of July! We have had a abnormal but interesting several days. I was shocked and disappointed to find out that Mattie and Yancy are both NOT pregnant . But there is a silver lining to the sad news. We have yet another Yellow female Lab in heat, Abby, who is a Mattie and GRHRCH Buck MH daughter. We will be using HRCH Utah for the breeding with Abby and it should take place over the next few days. To add to the exciting dog drama, today we found out the HRCH Brie is also in heat, we will be breeding her to GRHRCH Gumbo MH within the next week. If this breeding is successful it will produce a chocolate litter. So please keep your fingers crossed and say a few prayers that these breedings will be successful!
On the lighter side, Marley and her pups are doing AWESOME! We went to the vet last week for a check up and dew claw removal and everyone looked good! I will try to post some more pictures over the next few days of the pups.
June 26, 2007
Yesterday afternoon brought us a new litter of puppies from Marley and Hopper. Marley gave birth to 8 gorgeous and healthy pups. We have 3 males and 5 females. All are doing wonderful! We will be heading to the vet at the end of the week for dewclaw removal and a full checkup.
June 20, 2007
Life has been busy as usual here at Y-Farms in Hot and Muggy South Louisiana! Marley will be giving birth in just a few days. Goodness is she HUGE and looks as though she is about to pop! As uncomfortable as she appears, she still has her sweet attitude! We are hoping for a big healthy litter.
We recently bred another nice yellow litter, Maddie and Utah. We decided to use HRCH Utah SH again because we have been very impressed with the looks and workability of his kids from previous litters. We will confirm pregnancy in a couple of weeks, I will post more info as soon as it becomes available on this litter.
Aside from our breeding program, the kennel has been active with dogs boarding while their families are on vacation. Also, Ben has been extremely busy training. We have been excited to have several of our pups back here at the kennel for obedience and beginning retriever training. We will have a large crew of young dogs that will be running hunt tests in August and through the Fall season.

Well, we are back from a much needed family getaway to Roatan, Honduras. The relaxation, weather and scuba diving were wonderful! But I have to admit my mind never got too far away from the farm and kennel. I am so fortunate to have the best help around to take care of my animals while we are away! Much THANKS to my son Jeffrey and Brother in law Steve for doing such a AWESOME job!
We were happy to send our Belle and Utah pups to their new homes before our trip. I have gotten some wonderful feedback and cute pictures of the pups. Check out the pictures on the photo page.
Before our trip we confirmed that Marley will be having pups at the end of June, YEAH! This is going to be a very versatile litter, awesome retrievers as well as nice family companions, too! Check out the info on our upcoming litters page.

I'd like to give a few updates on the kennel and duck farm.
We bred HRCH Marley to HRCH Hopper at the end of April, we will know in a couple weeks if we have pups on the way. We are currently doing a repeat breeding with HRCH Yancy JH and CH Gordon MH. If this breeding is successful it will produce a beautiful Chesapeake litter. All pups from the previous breeding are good looking and are doing spectacular things all ready.
The Belle pups are growing so big and doing great! We will be heading to the vet on Monday to get puppy immunizations and a full check up.
We are still hatching away in the Mallard hatchery, the birds are laying great despite the very warm temperatures here in Louisiana. We will continue shipping out weekly, if you need babies let us know so we can get your order booked.
